A Pink Lettered Day
Time: 10 of August, 1954
Location: North Town
Population: Approx. 200
It was a regular day at North Town, the almost normal city. The only thing that wasn't normal is that its population was only teenagers, including myself. I am Anthea Hopper, subject 235-a, I am a clone of Ellie Hopper, subject 235. My sister is the original subject, known as the best of the best to other subjects. As school had ended, everyone except us ran to their homes to do anything stupid their little minds could think of. Well, we are not like that. My group is formed of 4 people: me, my sister, Sam, and Takeo. We were the popular-nerdy group of school; in other words, don't mess with us or we'll blow your brains out kind of thing. Anyhow, we were scrolling on campus on our way to our homes.
"I wonder what they'll have for us next time." Tak said.
"Hope it isn't an insertion, though." Sam announced.
Yes, insertions are the most painful things human teenagers can withstand. I remembered my last one, my body ached for weeks, and the needle marks…they would never go away that easy. Which reminds me of our only purpose, a solution for eternal life, well only my sister has achieved that type of power, and she was here since 1944, before the Hiroshima bomb plans were developed…
"Well, life's hard, don't you think, Ant?" Ellie asked me.
I was in the twilight zone thinking about the homework Mayor Steinback had assigned a couple of weeks ago.
"Ant?" Sam said.
"Oh," I snapped out of it ", well life must go on." I said.
Then our wrist watches beeped, announcing the lab boys have something for us.
"Well, let's go, troop!" Ellie barked.
We walked for 2 kilometers to reach the 'Subject Elevator'. Once we arrived, it required us to show proof that we were who we are. I took a strand of hair and placed it in the scanner, so did my sister. The others swabbed their mouths…it was disgusting! Once it gave us the all clear, we were on the platform heading to the labs. The elevator doors open, to reveal a large ice chuck thawing out. We saw the scientists.
"Subjects." It was Pierre L. Chaffin, the person responsible for project subjects and his goonies. His voice was cold and dry.
"Professor." My sister said. "What do you need this time?" She crossed her arms.
Then he pointed at the ice sculpture. Then, we saw something in it, something that looked strangely…humanoid.
"This is Sam and Ellie found during their mission to the ice caps. This energy source has been confirmed to be…" He didn't continue the sentence.
"To be what, Chaffin?" Sam asked.
Ellie gasped as she pronounced the word "…human." She couldn't believe it.
We were all surprised about it, and then we thought of another subject. He was lost in time, lost to his society…lost to his family. Then Chaffin and his assistants put on some hazmat suits. We knew he was going to use foxtrots to unfreeze the human. Then some alarms sounded, we were used to the rays so we just watched his thaw in the chamber. Once done, the picture was clear: a 15 year old boy with knight armor on. His hair color wasn't clear but we deduced it was brown.
"So, what do you want to do with him?" I asked curiously.
"What, isn't it obvious? He's going with you guys." He announced.
Ellie shook her head. "I think its best we proceed to put him on an early soldier program, he won't survive the insertion."
"I want to see how he reacts. For science." He explained.
Then some guards came and took him to the 'Death Chamber'. We were dismissed and decided to go to Sam's house. We were stunned, another subject.
"I can't believe Chaffin." Ellie said, the she mocked him. "For science and money and blah blah blah!"
Then a couple of hours later, someone knocked on Sam's door.
"I get this guys, must be Greg." He said.
We sat patiently in his living room, thinking about the boy. He was going to die or become a god just like us, but will be lost in society and his mind. Then Sam said,
"Ohm, guys?" He said.
We looked back to see the young man shaved, with needle markings on his arms, standard military uniform, and his clothing bag.
"This must be the recruit." Ellie said.
Then he handed a note to my sister. It was from Chaffin. It said
"This is subject 301, he only speaks French so…deal with it, Chaffin."
Ellie shook her head. "Typical Chaffin, deal with it eh?"
Then she spoke French to the recruit. Nobody knew that except for me and her. They had a rather short conversation, with some recognizable words here and there. Then they stopped.
"What did he say?" Sam asked.
"I asked for his name first…" Ellie stated.
"And?" Tak said.
"His name is Michael Belpois, he's royalty and a knight at the same time." She added.
We were all amazed.
"He is also a blacksmith." Ellie added.
"Well, look who's going to replace you!" Sam said.
The he surprised us with these actions…
"I also speak English, my father was a conqueror." Michael stated about himself.
After some minutes, my sister had his tags. She made them gold, just to represent that he was royalty.
"He you go, brother. And welcome to the subjects." Ellie said on our behalf.
"Why thank you, fair lady." He responded.
My sister blushed and turned away. I have never seen her like that.
